Sens. Marshall, Moran, Rep. Mann Announce Over $130,000 in USDA Funding for Hutchinson Community College

U.S. Senators Roger Marshall, M.D. and Jerry Moran and U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) announced a $132,250 USDA Rural Business Development grant that will help meet increased demands for licensed truck drivers across at least four counties in Kansas by funding instructor training and purchasing a commercial truck driving simulator for the Hutchinson Community College truck driving program.

"Our state's technical programs are second to none and are key to supplying Kansas businesses with a robust, skilled workforce," said Senator Marshall. "This grant awarded to Hutchinson Community College will provide students with a quality education and a brighter future, while helping address the truck driver shortage troubling businesses in our state and across the country."

"Our nation is facing a shortage of truck drivers, and this pandemic has highlighted how important truckers are to our supply chains," said Senator Moran. "This grant will help provide Hutchinson Community College with the tools it needs to train the next generation of truckers."

"Technical programs provided by Hutchinson Community College equip students with valuable training and skills for today's job market," said Representative Mann. "From transporting livestock to delivering goods to grocery stores, licensed truck drivers are a pivotal part of Kansas agriculture and are currently in high demand. This grant awarded to HCC will not only benefit the education of Kansas students, it will help the agricultural economic development of our state."
